Speakers for the night:

Maria Than

AI, Buddhism and islands of sanity

7:00pm

Hi i'm Maria and I'm a creative technologist, designer, educator, co-founder of Ricebox Studio, and I'm really pissed off at the world right now.

In my talk, I'll be shouting about how i've explored my internalised racism and culture through interactive media, AR, AI and illustration, how current AI systems highlight other broken systems that we continue to perpetuate,

and how diving back into my Viet Buddhist background help me combat societal cynicism by finding hope where I can, and help other lost people along the way.

Chris Speed Visuals (CSV) - talk

8:00pm

Chris's talk explores the use of the body within computational arts and how world-building can help us to imagine alternative realities. After Meta’s failed metaverse attempt, can we still use virtual DJs and simulated club environments to facilitate trance-like states for communities? Throughout the discussion, Chris will share examples of his artistic process and why he has chosen gaming as his primary medium. This will be followed by a live audiovisual performance which illustrates these concepts in motion.

Chris Speed Visuals (CSV) is a London-based audiovisual artist, DJ and educator exploring real-time technologies to breaking point. CSV’s music crosses genre boundaries by incorporating elements from Grime to Hyperpop as well as Glitch Music. To achieve this he utilises hardware synthesisers and custom algorithmic tools to produce boundary-pushing results. For live AV shows he has developed an innovative motion capture system and experimented across media such as music videos, VR and installations. These artworks have been exhibited internationally at Watermans, Arebyte Gallery, British Art Show 8, ArtFutura, The Wrong Biennale, CURRENTS, Amsterdam Dance Event and Digerati Experimental Media Festival. Chris also teaches at the Point Blank Music School and University of Greenwich with research interests including musical memetics, virtual bodies and experimental game design.

Chris Speed Visuals (CSV) - performance

9.00pm

CSV will perform an audiovisual live set with graphics rendered using Unreal Engine. Conceptually this is part of a larger world-building project which deconstructs fantasy RPG aesthetics by repurposing the tools of AAA gaming companies for grassroots experiences. Soundtracked by club focused productions, the visuals use real-time motion capture, summoning the artist's fictional creations to life through a process of sonic alchemy. You can expect mutating tempos, posthuman vocals and generative drum patterns making for an immersive live experience.

See you all creative coders there!
